Due to a forthcoming water based project we thought we should have a further explore of Chaos Groups Phoenix FD 2.1. Using 3ds Max 2014 a basic set made of very simple geometry was created to act as collision objects for the simulation.
An initial liquid simulation was created quickly to make sure that the water will flow properly.
Once the simulation has run a little bit a quick low quality render gives an idea as to how the surface of the water may look.
The actual landscape set is made.
The quality of the simulation is increased and foam is added. This allows the liquid to create bubbles as it interacts with the collision objects.
Once the simulation is complete, collision objects can be hidden or made un-renderable.

The final render. The foam can be seen in turbulent areas like where the water hits rocks.
A basic refractive VrayMtl has been given to the water.
